The Apple iPad is nothing short of mind blowing. Its frame is just 0.5 inches deep, yet it is packed with unbelievable power. If you thought the iPhone was revolutionary, wait until you get your hands on the iPad. It is innovation and ingenuity at its highest level. The guys at Apple are constantly outdoing themselves, and this time around, it is no different.
The iPad has a large, high resolution 9.7 inch LED-backlit IPS display that makes watching moves, looking at pictures and browsing the web a super exciting experience. Everything you need is in your hand. Just tap and go. And with a ultra-responsive multi-touch screen, getting where you want to go has never been easier. With the iPad, there is no up or down, or right or wrong way to hold it.
It uses a technology called in plane-switching which means you can hold it almost any way you choose and you will still get a great picture. And with the custom designed A4 chip inside the iPad, this baby could go about performing like no other. The technology is powerful yet efficient, all at the same time. The A4 chip is so efficient that it helps the device get up to a 10-hour battery life from just one charge. Well, I do not know if there is any other device that can do that. It is simply all too amazing.
And indeed, this little piece of technology is changing the way we do things.
We had to give the iPad a little more time with all the buzz surrounding it. Sixty seconds just wasn’t enough. The Miami Herald’s technology reporter Bridget Carey has plenty of thoughts on the iPad apps. The good, the bad and the silly. Video by Miami Herald Studio

Unlike several other tablet-designed devices encountered so far, the Apple iPad does not run a traditional operating system (OS) like the Linux, Mac OS X, or Windows. Instead, Apple has made use of a mobile version of the OS X from its unarguably fastest-growing and most successful product – the iPhone.
It is quite apparent that the iPhone OS in the iPad goes a long way in distinguishing it from others in the competition. In a market where iPad alternatives are launched in hundreds every week claiming all possible sorts of added features and advantages, the iPad remains the only tablet-computer that has got an access to the App Store.
The iPhone OS appears like a perfect fit for the iPad in several instances. For example, there are no chances of a traditional computer headache such as files scattered all over your desktop, trying to work out a feasible place for putting your downloaded image, installing extra drivers for third party hardware. Instead, with iPhone OS on your iPad, all the apps are well laid out, arranged in the form of nickel-size icons inside a grid, each of which is sensitive to touch. Whenever you download any email or image from a site, it is sure to emerge in the photo library immediately. In case you wish to make a search result for anything – an email, photo, web page, or song, all you need to do is double-click the Home button to bring up the Spotlight feature that will make a search for nearly everything stored in the device. In the iPad, there is no organizational metaphor of folders, and the result is a feeling of liberation while managing all your work.
Most users are bound to appreciate this reliability and simplicity of the iPhone OS, especially when they compare it to a conventional, inexpensive personal computer. Some, however, may disagree with this and consider the totalitarian control of Apple over its iPad‘s OS suffocating.
The Apple iPad without the VoIP app cannot be used to place calls or text message friends, but rest of the built-in capabilities of Apple‘s new device mimic those integrated in the iPhone 3GS.
Another feature of the iPad distinguishing it from other Apple gadgets is its slide flexibility that pushes it far more ahead than any of Apple‘s non-laptop mobile devices such as the iPhone. The bigger screen size of the iPad enables operation of its default apps including email, maps, photos, iPod, Safari browser, YouTube, and video that resemble full-grown applications in terms of both appearance and functionality. For example, the email app of the iPad is a mirror image of the Mail app of Apple OS X and offers a comprehensive overview of the inbox along with a display of text of any currently open message. Its photos app, with its open view of photos organized into event-specific stacks, is easily comparable with Apple‘s iPhoto. The YouTube app works like a more appealing personification of the real web site. And the iPod app appears and functions like an adapted version of the iTunes. Ironically, the Safari Web Browser and the Maps are the only two applications that have been subject to a few changes and that offer the most drastically unusual experience because of iPad‘s bigger screen size.
Size without grace is meaningless. Fortunately, the iPad boasts of both qualities with its multitouch display utility, a brand new Apple A4 processor of 1GHz, and an incorporated Wi-Fi transmitter compatible with the newest 802.1n wireless spec. Like any other Apple gadget, the apps in the iPad open within seconds; even a boot-up simply takes 10 seconds; and transformation from sleep to active mode is almost instantaneous. Moreover, the web browsing experiencing is often faster that that on the iPod Touch or iPhone on the same network, simply because an iPad requires lot less zooming and scrolling to access the required information.
